Contemporary designs, photography, and paintings gain richness and tactile appeal when printed on brushed aluminum, crystal-clear acrylic, richly-grained wood or exotic bamboo. These surfaces beautifully underlay vintage and traditional maps and prints to give a new interpretation to familiar subjects. Our artists and designers customize the art to the surface, bringing out the best in each. Designs sometimes interact across two surfaces, such as acrylic overlaying wood. Others use both the back and the front of the acrylic to create a multi-dimensional view. Decorative shapes are also included in our line, cut from wood and acrylic to suggest a contemporary window or the silhouette shape of an Early American sign.
Our Wild Apple Open Studio prints offer amazing detail across a wide range of colors when printed directly onto clear acrylic, brushed aluminum, rich-grained birch or exotic, eco-friendly bamboo. Printing directly onto these substrates adds shadow and depth to prints, such as on clear acrylic, which is mounted ¾" away from the wall. The natural sheen of brushed aluminum shines through printed images, and the rich texture of birch, pine or bamboo is evident in artwork printed on these natural substrates. In the past, paper or plastic prints have been laminated onto various materials, but this resulted in a dull, flat look.
It is important to Wild Apple that our products have a low impact on the environment. We are pleased that our Open Studio line is printed with low-impact inks, but also that it is available on LEED-certified, eco-friendly, sustainable materials. Our printing process is solvent-free and our archival inks are light-fast and created with no volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
